First printing from Fantasy Games Unlimited. Priced to sell. In very
collectible condition (as it's VERY RARE).
Written by Lee Gold, and illustrated by Ken Pick. This is the first RPG I've
seen created by a woman. The editors introduction indicates this was originally
meant to be a Samurai expansion forChivalry & Sorcery, but Land of the Rising
Sun contains all the rules necessary to play it without additional books
though still fully compatible withChivalry & Sorcery). A real piece of
independent, creator-owned RPG gaming history.
Original box included! An insert in this original boxed set seems to indicate
this may be the complete set of the interior materials. It reads: "Included in
this box are the complete rules for Land of the Rising Sun, Summary Sheets of
the most important and often used tables from the rules, and complete Character
Reference Sheets. The rule book comes with a complete and thorough index and
samples of how to fill out character sheets. Players need only provide paper,
pencils, dice and imagination."
The book is in good condition (see photos), with strong binding (corners and
edges are solidly intact, and pristine), but cover is semi-detached from
binding (fully detached from the edge of the bind, but still attached to the
back inner page). The book surface still retains a sheen (the glossy coated
papers for small-run softcover editions of that era were not as glossy as those
of modern printing processes). Interior is pristine for a book published in
1980. There are also five extra hardstock loose pages of charts and character
sheets meant for reproduction, and a loose page of errata, all in good
condition. And, of course, the insert referenced above.
A fantastic piece of clout from the era of first-generation old school RPGs,
before they started including dice in the boxed sets.
